Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife, who is 47 years of age and weighing around 68kg, has been experiencing moderate to severe pain on her left calf muscle mostly before bedtime. She gets relief when the calf muscle is massaged for a while. Sometimes the pain persists and she is unable to sleep. She is a teacher and requires to stand while teaching the students. Currently, she is not any medication for the condition.
hi thanks for posting your question it looks like she is developing a condition called as "deep vien thrombosis(DVT)" as you mentioned the above symptoms looks its DVT. it can also be varicose vein but for that there will be superficial dialated tortous veins. it is common in people who stand for long time. if its DVT please stop massaging your calf because it will lead to complications. first get duplex scan of your leg. it will tell exactly whats the problem. if its DVT then you need to be started on anticoagulants. for that you need to visit a local surgeon. if you have varicose vein then u will need surgery for it depending on degree of the disease. i personally advice you first get duplex scan without any delay.if you have any further queries you can contact me to my mail id sree.medico79@gmail.com
wish you good health
