Hello,

Althea may cause nausea in some people and if they develop nausea, they may not eat and hence lose weight. There are also reports of weight gain as it is a hormonal tablet.
Oral contraceptive tablets increase the chances of clot formation and may not be advisable in people with mitral stenosis and atrial fibrillation - a condition leading to stasis of blood in the left atrium. Your echo showed only mild mitral and tricuspid regurgitation which do not produce any stasis and therefore does not increase the risk of clot formation than in a normal person.
I would not consider it a contraindication to taking althea.
Best wishes,
Dr. Noble Zachariah
