Can Amlodipine Cause Swelling On Ankle?

I have been taking Amlodipine - Benazapril 10-20 for 4 months. I have large swelling of my left ankle and foot and am aware of this as a side effect of Amlodipine. I have taken Benazapril for 15 years with no side effects. Shall I wean off of Amlodipine or is it safe to stop and take only Benazapril?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

As you mentioned, amlodipine can cause swelling of the ankles and is possibly contributing to your symptoms.

You may need to stop the amlodipine (it does not have to be weaned off) and continue your other medication.
Other medication may need to be added to the benazapril to ensure blood pressure control.

Discontinuation of the amlodipine should only occur after discussion with your doctor.

I hope this helps
