Can Augmentin Prescribed For Ear Infection Be Taken For Strep Throat?

My daughter started getting a stuffy nose, sore throat on Saturday. Still playing and eating normally. She went to school today and was sent home due to her head hurting and just not feeling good. She s complaining her throat hurts, but is still congested and coughing. No fever. The teacher mentioned there have been a few cases of strep throat in her class, is it possible this is what it is? She also just finished a prescription of Augmenten on Saturday for an ear infection from 1/29. Can this help protect her against strep?
