Can Cenestin 1.25mg Be Replaced By Estradiol 1mg With History Of Having Hysterectomy?

My pharmacy has been unable to obtain Cenestin 1.25mg. I have been on this since 2000 after having a hysterectomy. They called today and my doctor called in and gave me a new prescription for Estradiol lMG. Price was a big difference. $118.00 a month for Cenestin and $13.49 for this Estradiol. I am uneasy about using this product after reading some side effect.

Cenestin and estradiol are different formulations of the female hormone estrogen. Cenestin actually has several different types of estrogen in it, including estradiol. Estradiol is a more "pure" form of the hormone. The side effects are the same. If you have not had a problem all these years with the Cenestin, you should have no problems with the estradiol. The reason for the difference in price is probably because Cenestin is a brand name and conjugated (several different estrogen types in it), and estradiol is the generic "pure" form. Hope this answers your query.
