Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was prescribed Cheratussin for my cough and starting taking it yesterday evening. It didn t seem to help. I took a spoonful this morning and at lunch. I am not coughing as much but my voice is raspy. Is it a side affect of the medicine? Should I stop taking it?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Cheratussin is an anti tussive syrup for cough. It doesn't have side effect of change in voice. Your change of voice is most likely due to laryngitis ( inflammation or infection of voice box).In such case an ENT examination can rule out this and antibiotics might be needed to clear it. Voice rest also will be necessary. Steam inhalation and warm saline gargle will also help. You can take warm chicken soup and lemon tea. Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries. Thanks
