Can Clonidine Be Taken Instead Of Losartan And Diltiazem?
I am taking the drug losartan and diltiazem for high blood pressure, start having severe vertigo and I have not taken these 2 meds for about a week and the vertigo seems to have gone. Can I take clonidine and not have the side effects I had from these two meds?
HI welcome to HCM. Clonidine is not a substitute for losartan and diltiazem.Clonidine is associated with side effects like gastrointestinal disturbances.Sudden cessation of clonidine can cause rebound elevation of blood pressure with end organ damage.Vertigo in your case can be treated with drugs like betahisitine 8mg once a day.Losartan and diltiazem can lead to adequate control of blood pressure with adequate dosing.Baseline echo and ecg should be done for periodical follow up.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
