I have always had post nasal drip and am coughing or clearing my throat all the time. I experienced a blood clot in December and am now on Coumadin since that time (9 months). In the last 5 months or so, I am getting a very foul taste from the post nasal drip and my breath is really bad. It is sort of like a metallic taste. The only thing that is different is that I am taking the Coumadin. Is it possible that it is causing this problem? YYYY@YYYY
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The caumadin can result in metallic taste, it is the adverse effect of the caumadin. Nothing to be panic, consult a general physician and get it evaluated. The other possible causes can be the use of certain drugs like metronidazole, antihypertensives like lisinopril, fosinopril, enalapril, trandolapril, quinapril and ramipril. Anticancer drugs and antihistamines can also cause metallic taste. The metallic taste should return back to normal after stopping the medicines, it might take maximum of two weeks. The metallic taste could be because of the gum infection that has resulted in bleeding in mouth. This can result in metallic taste. So consult a oral physician and get your teeth cleaned. If it does not subside then you consult a oral physician. I hope my answer will help you, take care.
