Can Crestor And HCG Diet Influence Liver Enzyme Levels?
In recent blood work for pre-admission testing for surgery, the ALT in the panel were 59...I have been on Crestor for two to three months AND the HCG diet ended June 10. Could both of these things be the reason the liver enzymes are high and they weren t in April?
Elevation of ALT is a well known side effect of Crestor. There are not many well documented studies on HCG diet and hence it is not possible to say whether it causes or not. If you were on HCG diet , I presume you were obese. Obesity itself predisposes to a fatty liver and mild elevation in liver enzymes. The other causes are alcohol and certain viral infections. At ALT of 59 there may not be anything to worry but it has to be repeated after a couple of months to know whether it is going up. In the meanwhile it would be a good idea to refrain from alcohol and fatty food. Crestor also may be withheld after taking your doctor's approval as these are what I advise my patients with the same problem. I shall be happy to answer if you have any further query. Good day! Dr. Noble Zachariah
