Can Dicynone Be Taken For Heavy Flow During Periods?

Hi, I am 45 years old and I experienced of having a 7 to 12 days of menstruation flow and sometimes on the 4th day onwards it quite heavy flow. Is it fine to take Dicynone 500mg? Also sometimes my menstruation is irregular on date like it will come earlier than the previous date. I never felt week when i am having a heavy flow. What i experiencing right now is because i am the early stage of menopausal? It can be also because of tension or pressure and at the same time because of the weight? Appreciated on your reply on this regards.

Hello there,
I can understand your concern. The bleeding you experience each month is quite a lot and not healthy. It can actually make you severely anaemic. It would have helped to know if your bleeding has always been like this or is it heavy now for the last few years? Agreed that around menopause women do get irregular periods and heavy periods but it cannot be ignored. You need to visit a gynaecologist who will examine you and suggest some tests like CBC, Fasting and post meal sugars, Average sugars, thyroid functions and scan if needed. Dicynone 500 is a medicine to reduce the blood flow but I would suggest you first get an opinion from gynaecological examination and then take the medicine. Weight gain and stress can affect the menstrual period so try to lose weight and try relaxation techniques to overcome these issues.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
