Can Duphaston Cause Ectopic Pregnancy?

Hi I took duphaston 10 mg for 10 days and three days after my last pill i did a home pregnancy test and it showed negative. So i started bleeding on the 25th of aug which was 5 days after my last pill. I bled heavy fot wto days and then very light, the light spotting didnt stop. I then experienced severe lower abdominal pain on monday the 7th of septembet n went to the hospital n they found that i was 4 weeks pregnant, it turbed out o b an ectopic pregnancy and i had to remove the fsllopian tube as it ruptured. My question is, could the duphaston have been the cause of the ectopic pregnancy?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Duphaston contain the active ingredient dydrogesterone, which is a synthetic hormone similar to the naturally occurring progesterone.
It is a hormonal preparation commonly used to treat several conditions that are due to lack of progesterone like secondary amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea or painful periods, premenstrual syndrome and abnormal uterine bleeding, and is also used to induce conception.
Ectopic pregnancy (tubal pregnancy) is a complication of pregnancy in which the embryo attaches outside the uterus. This could occur due to improper movement of fertilized ovum down the Fallopian tube due to various reasons like pelvic inflammatory disease, Fallopian tube anomalies, use of intrauterine devices and endometriosis.
Intake of duphaston medication has not been known to be associated with ectopic pregnancy.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
