Can Echanacia Be Taken Along With Warfarin In Case Of CHF?
I take Warfarin, but also have very low Magnesium levels. Can t take food supplements for magnesium. Gives me diarrhea . Have tried numerous times. I read on Echanacia that it has magnesium stearate in it . I ve inly been taking 1 a day and no problems. Recommended dosage is 2 tabs 2/ day. On the Warfarin instructions it says avoid Echanacia . I recently in past week went up on it to see if it would help(consulting my cardiologist) I m to have a blood test for both levels this week. But last few days have felt tired, drained and breathing problems. Also fall asleep very easily. While they say not to take W and E together, don t say why. Can it coagulate blood more or make thinner? All I know is I feel like crap. Haven t felt this way since diagnosed with CHF and cardiomyopathy 2 years ago. Also my heart rate has dropped to in the 50 s and usually around 65-68. I ve had A-Fib in past and now heart seemed to be in sinus last few doctor visits. I think it is going in and out last few days. Have alway kept close eye on these things. Know this is long message but would like to know answers if possible. Thanks
After going through the details provided by you i would like to tell you that although the concomitant use of ECHANACIA with WARFARIN do not have any significant change in the INR levels but even then its better to avoid this combination as ECHANACIA do affect the blood levels of those drugs which are metabolized by CYTOCHROME p450 system like anticoagulant there by increasing the risk of bleeding in some patients. But if the combination has to be used then its advisable to keep a close look at your coagulation profile.
Another important thing about ECHANACIA is, its not a medicine which is to be used primarily for increasing MAGNESIUM levels.
So its advisable that you should discuss with your cardiologist for options to increase your magnesium levels by other possible sources.
I wish you good health
