Can Ezetimibe And Simvastatin Combination Of Drugs Cause Nerve Damage?
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and recently commenced on Hydroxychoroquine. This drug has enabled me to move about again without pain in all joints and now no longer need physical assistance. However, I am on Ezetimbe/simvastatin to lower my chholestrol. I have recently found suggestions that this combination can have serious effect eg nerve damage. Can you give me more information on this combination? Maureen
The most common side effects of Ezetimibe & Simvastatin include:
Muscle pain (due to inflammation of the muscles) or weakness, increased fatigue, or elevation of liver enzymes (inflammation of the liver).
However, in young children this combination can cause nerve damage because the outer coating of the nerves (myelin sheath) is not well developed and hence should not be used in young children (up to 8 years of age).
Hope to have explained your query.
Regards.
