Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Flonase And Astepro/Astelin Be Taken When Diagnosed With Glaucoma?
I have normal tension (pressure) glaucoma. I have just been given prescriptions for Singular, tablet form, and Asterpro/Aselin and Flonase nasal sprays for chronic sinusitis. I need to know if there are any restrictions in use due to my glaucoma, and I am having trouble finding if these are safe to take with my glaucoma condition. Thank you, Anne Tonden

Hi,
Flonase theoretically can raise intraoccular pressure, which is highly contradicted. Observative study showed rare chance of increase/development of glaucoma.
You have normotensive glaucoma, in such case, if glaucoma is not controlled over 2 months/in case the pressure rises with use of flownase/pressure decreases after stopping the spray.
You should discuss the matter with your treating doctor & can stop the Flownase nasal spray & think of starting decongestant spray with expert advise.
Astelin is anti-allergic nasal spray, it is not known to raise ocular pressure, but if you get headache, red eyes, dizziness then consult your doctor for the use & dosage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
