Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 26 year old daughter has gastroparesis and is on Reglan and anti nausea meds. These worked for a while, but her symptoms have returned with a vengeance. She is 5 2 and is losing weight daily. She is currently 92 lbs. I understand that this disease has no cure and gets worse with time. Could this become fatal?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Gastroparesis is functional disorder of stomach motility and it may cause significant diffculties in digestion, but it cant cause directly fatal consequances. It can be treated and kept under control with medications and in severe cases surgery can be done to perform bypass between esophagus and small bowel. This is solution if there is unstopable weight loss.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health. DR. Ivan Rommstein
