Can Gold Bond Powder Be Applied On The Scalp To Relieve Itching?

hi good morning my name is Jenny I was wondering my scalp is very very itchy today and is burning really bad., so, now, happen all weekend I have had it up in a very tight sock bun during work and it has been very hot outside all weekend so I haven t taken it down since early Saturday morning and re did it on Sunday morning also so I was wondering is it possible if I could maybe put some Gold Bond powder on my scalp,? I just recently got done showering and washing it and blow drying it. I feel like I literally want to just scratch the skin right off of my head it is so itchy I was just hoping I could sprinkle some of it into the scalp of my head and massage it into the scalp please let me know. I feel desperate right now. I thank you so so much

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Instead of putting powder on the scalp I suggest you to take an oral antihistamine e.g Tab cetrizine 10mg once a day for symptomatic relief from itching. May be you have Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp which is causing it to itch. I suggest you to try an OTC antifungal shampoo e.g Nizral shampoo(contains ketoconazole 1%), twice in a week. Lather it well onto wet scalp and allow it to act for 7-10minutes before rinsing it off.
