i was just at a tailor and she was holding pins in her mouth as she pinned back the fabric of my suit, once the pins where in the suit i moved and the pin scraped me along the back of my arm. there was a little blood. If the pin was in her mouth, then scratched me am I at risk for HIV or Hep C? Very nervous
Hello As , she was holding pin in her mouth and by accident pricked you in arm and there was little blood . Now read this and get rid of your anxiety and nervousness. Although HIV can be isolated typically in low titers from a saliva of a small proportion of INFECTED individuals ( mind it I mentioned INFECTED but in your case status of tailor , you don't know), there is no convincing evidence that saliva can transmit HIV infection. Saliva contains endogenous antiviral factors that prevent replication and infection. So you are HIV free . The risk of Hepatitis C virus infection following percutaneous injury is ~1.8%,that too if an individual is HCV infected ( need not to worry I mentioned if that tailor was infected). So i don't recommend you any tests , because you are free for HIV & HCV. Good luck.
