Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My platelet count was 1.1 million of which was corrected with 1500mg of hydroxyurea per day with my body weight of 120 lbs. Against doctors orders I stopped on march 29 of this year in taking hydroxyurea for treating ET Jak2. This is do to severe side effects of which placed me in a wheelchair along with unable to think and talk with total lack of memory, I lost my cognitive functions. My blood count for platelets, white and red blood cell were knocked below normal range. I stopped taking hydroxyurea March 29th and my Platelet and white blood cell count recovered to mid range and my red blood cell count is approaching the low end of normal as of May 3rd. After stopping hydroxyurea the one nasty lingering side effect that remains is random extreme pains occurring at any place in my body of which lasts for one to five minutes. How long does it take for oneself to recover from these side affects after stopping hydroxyurea. Can hydroxyurea cause neurological damage?
