Can I Continue Taking Mirtazapine For Depression?

Hi, I have been taking 15mg Mirtazapine for 10 days now before bed. I feel that this is helping a lot with my depression however I am having such vivid dreams that I hardly sleep at night so I cannot work or study all day because I am so tired I have to stay in bed. Is there anything I can do?

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

Yes you can continue mirtazapine. It is a good anti depressant medicine from SNRI group. It is generally given at night as it helps in sleep also. So you are taking at night is a right thing.
However you are still suffering from unsatisfactory sleep.I suggest to ask your treating doctor to add some medicine from benzodiazepines group like clonazepam or zolpidem for sleep for sometime. As your depression will improve further , you will have less disturbance or none at sleep later on. After that your medicines for sleep can be stopped.
One advice, take a cup of warm milk before 15 minutes to bed. It will help in sound sleep.
Regards.
