Can I Empty The Contents Of Flucloxacillin Capsule Directly In The Mouth?
i CARN T swallow capsules and my doctor has just giving me flucloxacillin capsules 500mg would it still be effective if i cut the capsule in half and empty the contents into my mouth and drink down with water. Please get back to be as soon as possible because this is very important. Also i have been told to take 4 a day one every 4-6 hours if this helps you in anyway.

Flucloxacillin is an antibiotic that is in the treatment of various bacterial infections like skin and soft tissue infections, pneumonia, ear infections, diabetic foot infections, infection of bone, heart and chest infection etc. You can take this medication in form of capsule or liquid. Because, opening a capsule and unloading its contents into the mouth, can alter its pharmaceutical form, so the rate and extent to that the active ingredient is absorbed by the body, may be changed.
This may lead to under or overdosing, rendering the treatment ineffective. Without consulting the prescribing doctor first, you should not open a capsule and unload its contents into the mouth. If you aren't able to swallow, then you should inform your doctor, because Flucloxacillin is also available in liquid form and your doctor can choose Flucloxacillin syrup for you.
