Can I Get Infection After Inserting MTP Kit?

My Wife did MTP on 5th June 2010 and had a sonography on 14 june 2010. Some of the remains are still there. We took a second opinion from other Doctor and she is suggesting to have another try with direct insersion of the medicine and wait for one week before we go for DNC. Please suggest trying another dose would be helpful? Will there be any chances of infection through that? or should we directly go for DNC now

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. When there are retained products after an induced medical abortion, it is preferable to go for a surgical evacuation to make it fool proof. If you do not prefer surgical intervention, another trial for medical abortion may be done. Chances of infection are limited with proper aseptic precautions taken during the procedure. Either way, a repeat pelvic/trans-vaginal sonogram must be done to ensure that there are no more retained products. Hope this helps.
