Can I Replace One Dose Of Eliquis With Aspirin For Atrial Flutter Management?
I recently was tested continuously for Atrial Fib. The data showed 9.6% of the time , randomly over. full week showed Atrial Flutter. They put me on Eliquis (5mg twice a day). Eliquis is very expensive. My question is: Can I replace one of the Eliquis with one 81mg Aspirin?
Generally, apixaban is considered more effective than aspirin to prevent strokes due to moderate to high form of atrial fibrillation or flutter. Still, some of the studies show apixaban and aspirin equally effective to prevent strokes due to mild form of atrial flutter or fibrillation.
In your case 9.6% occurrence of atrial flutter may be taken as moderate form of flutter & hence as a safety measure, you are not advised to replace Eliquis with aspirin. However, final decision should be left with your treating cardiologist in this regard.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
