Hi doctor, I m currently taking Amlodipine 10mg/day for my bp of 135/70 and my dr just prescribe me another bp med losartan 25mg/day. Can I take losartan if my Bp is high and stop when it s low or stable? My questions is that do I have to be on it for the rest of my life or can I take it on and off or stop completely?

Hi welcome to HCM.
Blood pressure medications have to be continued on long term basis when prescribed.Sudden stopping of the drug can lead to rebound elevation of the blood pressure. In your case both Amlodipine and Losartan should be used.In case if your find the blood pressure on lower side, its advisable to cut down the dosages to required level in consultation with your Cardiologist.Monitor your blood pressure frequently twice a week.
Thank you.
