Can I Take Polyethylene Glycol While Suffering From High BP?
I am supposed to take 1 gal. of Polyethylene Glycol tonight in lieu of a virtual colonoscopy tomorrow. I have high blood pressure and an extra heartbeat every third beat for which I take 20 mg. Lisinopril in the morning and 20 mgs. at night along with 5 mg. of Amlodipine Besylate. My Pharmacist has warned me that taking this fluid tonight could throw my electolytes off, so I am worried. Should I take this fluid tonight and, if so, what precautions should be taken either before or after my virtual colonoscopy tomorrow morning?
Hi welcome to HCM. There is no possible risk of electrolyte disturbances while taking PEG in presence of only hypertension and occasional missed heart beats.Such problems encountered only in presence of congestive cardiac failure/CCF with documented peripheral edema and electrolyte disturbances.I advise you to have a baseline ecg and 2 dimensional echo of the heart to document the CCF and serum total electrolytes to assess your eligibility for PEG intake for virtual colonoscopy.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
