Can I Take Metoprolol And Levofloxacin After A Heart Bypass Surgery For Bronchitis?
Recently, a dr. dc d my husbands metoprolol succ due to taking Benzonatate and Levofloxacin plus a nublizer treatment for severe bronchitis. He has had quadruple heart bypass surgery in the past. My question is should we have dc d the heart meds. I am concerned due to his feet swelling and concerned about the possibility of CHF. Blood pressure today was 132/62
Dear sir/madam, firstly just rule out that whether cough is due heart failure or bronchitis. If its due to bronchitis then metoprolol and levofloxacin can be given ( provided if he is in stable heart failure ) . But if cough is due to heart failure then metaprolol should be witholded till he is free of oedema and then can be restarted with low dose. Levofloxacin should be avoided if there is any heart beat irregularity ( arrythmia ) and renal ( kidney dysfunction) is there. Better to consult nearest cardiologist.
