Can I Take Metroprolol Tartrate Along With Ginger Root?

I m taking Metroprolol Tartrate 5mg(once a day) for High blood pressure (since last December) and just a couple of days ago I started taking Ginger Root because my head hasn t been feeling good for the last few weeks from me getting overheated.. But the Ginger Root has made me feel more lightheaded than it was feeling before. Can taking the Metroprolol tartrate and the Ginger root be causing my head to feel worse.

Hello and thank you for your question. Ginger root can cause an increase in blood pressure, making your blood pressure medications less effective. It may be why you are having the sensation of light headedness when you take the ginger. It is not a good idea for people with hypertension to take ginger containing compounds. Using ginger as a flavoring in food is not a problem, but larger therapeutic doses can cause you blood pressure medications to be ineffective. Good health to you.
