Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on a course of anti biotics to clear BV.I am nearly finishing the course and symptoms of the odour and discharge have almost cleared but i seem to have symtoms of thrush (no itching just soar and slightly burn when urinate)Can i take thrush medication while still on anti biotics(metronidazole)
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Thrush is an infection caused by types of fungal yeast called Candida spp. The vagina contains mucus and some harmless germs (bacteria) which help to defend the vagina from candidal infection (and other germs). These natural defences may be altered or upset by certain situations - for example, if you take antibiotic medication. While you are on antibiotic,in your case for Bacterial vaginosis(BV),anti-thrush treatment should be started at the first sign of thrush. As Candida spp. are yeasts and not bacteria, they will not be killed by antibiotics. You can take thrush medication while still on antibiotic (in your case metronidazole)
