Can I Trust My Negative HIV Tests At 33 And 35 Days After Exposure Despite Experiencing Physical Symptoms?
Hello Dr, On April 28 I had an HIV exposure with HIV person. I am having a lot of symptoms, but did an HIV 1&2 4 generation blood (33 days after exposure ) and it came back negative. I did another 4 Generation rapid test ( 35 days after exposure) and it came back negative. I’m freaking out due to all the physical symptoms I am having. Please advice.
Depending on the type of test undertaken, the window period may vary. However, 90 days is the safest period, after which, almost all the tests should show positive for HIV infection to a level of almost 100% accuracy. Therefore, in your case, for a more reliable result, you should be tested at least after 90 days.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
