Can Iophen-C NR Be Taken For Chest Congestion?

I have been prescribed Iophen-C NR for chest congestion. After the first dose I noticed a difference after a short time. I was finally able to sleep. Over the last 3 days my symptoms have become worse. I have followed the instructions regarding dosages, and amounts. Is there a logical "next step" I could take?

Hi welcome to Healthcaremagic,
LOPHEN C NR is an antitussive (CODEINE PHOSPHATE) and expectorant (GUAIFENESIN) combination. I usually prescribe it as a first line treatment for minor upper respiratory symptoms.
In your case, since the symptoms still persists and is getting worse after 3 days, there is chance of a secondary respiratory tract infection.
I would suggest you to have course of antibiotic, tab Augmentin (amoxicillin +clavulanic acid) for 5days. Lophen c nr can be continued for 3more days.
Get well soon. In case symptoms persists do contact via Healthcaremagic.
Thank you.
