Can Lugol S Iodine Be Taken For Cough?

Someone in a FB group is recommending a cough remedy to my sister, Lugol s iodine something. He says it helps the thyroid to destroy cold/flu germs as they pass thru the thyroid every 9 minutes . Does the thyroid do that? I thought those were functions of liver and kidneys. Thanks.

This medication contains iodine and potassium iodide. It is used along with antithyroid medicines to prepare the thyroid gland for surgical removal and to treat certain overactive thyroid conditions (hyperthyroidism, thyroid storm). It works by shrinking the size of the thyroid gland and by decreasing the amount of thyroid hormones the body makes.
it is definitely not used for cough.
You can use mucinex for cough.
