Can Marvelon Help To Stop Pregnancy?

Dear Doctor, I had my last cycle on 29th March 2014 ( cycle varies from 28 days to 30 days). We had unprotected intercourse on 8th April 2014. I stay in Dubai, where we do not get emergency pills. Kindly advice if Marvelon can be taken now and will it help? SRV

I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

From your notes it is clear that 8th April falls under fertile period. There is no evidence regarding use of Marvelon as emergency contraception . Any contraceptive tablet containing Ethynyl estradiol and Levonorgestral/Norgestral can be used as emergency contracetion (Lutera, levora, Triphasic, Ovral tec). You need to take 4 active tablets now and 4 tablets after 12 hours. Take a print out of my notes and go to the pharmacy and check.
If you do not find these in your country, since you have no other choice you may use Marvelon and see ( 4 tablets now and 4 tablets after 12 hours).

To avoid such unnecessary stress i suggest that you discuss with your doctor and start using regular contraceptives like pills. They are more effective in preventing pregnancy.
