hello doctor.. Im having problems of loose motion not on a regular basis, but 2-3 times a week.. I am a medical student and i wonder if i could use Metronidazole tablets (400 mg) my aunt who is a doctor suggested the same... Can I know your valuable suggestion regarding this? thank you.
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. You are having loose motions 2-3 times a day ;the possibilities are infective diarrhea such as giardiasis or chronic intestinal ambiasis. Logically you send should first your morning stool sample for routine examination and then you can start a course of tablet Metronidazole 400 mg three times a day for 05 days. Stool report may confirm cyst /trophozoite of ameba or giardia lamblia or any intestinal helminths responsible for diarrhoea.
