Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! I took 600 my ibuprophen around 9:30 due to pain from a swelling. I have been fighting a cold for the past few days and taking Mucinex D to relieve congestion. I haven had any since this morning. I would like to take one Mucinex D tablet now so I can get some sleep. Would it be safe to do so?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Ibuprofen and Mucinex D can be taken together as they don't have similar or interacting active ingredients. Mucinex D can usually be taken safely unless you've got high blood pressure or a history of serious arrhythmia. Ibuprofen may cause peptic ulcers, high blood pressure, renal and liver injury, allergic reactions, etc. If you don't have any serious contraindication for each of these drugs individually then you can take them together.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
