Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I saw recently in the news that Niaspan can cause internal bleeding. I had taken Niaspan for several years until my spleen hemorrhaged and I had a splenectomy. There was no trauma or pathology for the cause. Doctors did not why I had hemorrhaged. Wondering whether Naispan could have been the causative agent. I was 53 years old when my spllen hemorrhaged and in good health.
Hello and thank you for your question. Niaspan is a B vitamin. It should not cause any bleeding problems if taken in recommended doses. It is sometimes used to treat high cholesterol. I do not think that Niaspan would be the cause of a spleen hemorrhage. I am sorry that it happened to you.
