I am diabetic patient for last 20 years and on insulin, also using medicin for blood pressure and cholesterol. for last 7 years i am using Concor 5mg (Merck), last week doctor advised me to use Novasac 5 mg instead of Concor . Need your expert opnion for the Change in medicin . Inaddition also using Tritace 10 mg for blood pressure. regards Aleem Ansari
Hello, Thanks for the query. Novasac 5 mg is Amlodepine 5 mg a calcium chennel blocker used as hyptensive to reduce blood pressure. Tab Cocor is besoprolol, also used for high BP but a beta blocker. Both have action in reducing high BP, but mode of action is different. It is difficult to see why the doctor has asked you to change, unless the BP control is not as expected. Amlodepine is a fairly potwnt drug in reducing BP but can also cause swelling of feet and legs. You may ask the reason for changing the drug. Thanks.
