Hi,

I would suggest you to restart the drug after consulting with your child's doctor. Anti-epileptic drugs should not be suddenly started or stopped. Withdrawal symptoms can include irritability, anxiety, the return of manic or depressive symptoms, dizziness, and tremors.

Some studies show that stopping the drug for 2 to 3 months after at least 2 years of treatment will not cause any severe effects. But after few months, drug should be restarted if required. Dose should be gradually increased based on the child response to drug.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
