I have tonsillitis now about 5 days. I went to my doctor and he put me on penicillin it really helped my throat but my gums are really swollen and it hurts to chew anything. Im wondering if this is connected to the tonsillitis and should the penicillin help this? Thank You!
I have gone through your query and can understand..
As per your complain swollen gums seems to be either due to infection or it can also be due to side effect of the medication that is Penicillin that you are taking.. You should consult your treating physician and get evaluated and in case if it is due to allergic reaction you can get the medicine changed and also take anti-allergics like Benadryl in case if it is due to inflammation you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and also do warm saline gargles and cold compresses over the gums.. Take a soft diet and use a sot toothbrush to brush your teeth.. Massage your gums using an antimicrobial oral paste..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
