Can Pepto For Back Pain Cause A Discolored Or Blackened Saliva?

Hi last night I woke up with chest being tight and upper back pain the pain was very strong and consistent. I took pepto thinking it could be acid relexes because I would burb here and there. Pain finally settled when I finally got some sleep sitting up on my bed. This morning my spit was like black not sure what to do. Thank you

Yes, Pepto-Bismol can cause black discoloration of saliva. Even a stool color may change to black. The reason is the main ingredient of Pepto-Bismol reacts with fluids in the gastrointestinal tract and turns into a black color. Do not worry, the condition is harmless and after a few days, the saliva color becomes normal.
