Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking propranolol since 2008 and now experiencing difficulty swallowing. It is getting worse. I have lost over 20 lbs since July. What can I do about this? Should I change medications? If I do change will my swallowing improve or did the medicince damage my ability to swallow?
However there is no reason to think your dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) is related to Propranolol, it's not a side effect of the drug. I think you should see your doctor to investigate about the cause of your dysphagia. Several possible causes like conditions of the esophagus and pharynx as well as in certain neurological conditions. Given also your loss of weight I think it should be taken seriously and physical exam and diagnostic procedures shouldn't be delayed.
I hope to have been of help.
