Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Viagra (Sildenafil) is the citrate salt of Sildenafil, which is a selective inhibitor of
cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), commonly used as an oral therapy for
erectile dysfunction.
Common side effects of Sildenafil use include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, and impaired vision.
Rare but serious adverse effects found include prolonged erections, severe low blood pressure,
myocardial infarction ,
ventricular arrhythmia, stroke, increased
intraocular pressure and sudden hearing loss. In your case, stroke could have been caused due to consumption of Viagra. However, since your husband has other risk factors for stroke like type 2 diabetes and hypertension, the episode cannot be solely attributed to consumption of Viagra only.
Kindly follow the treatment as advised by your doctor.
Hope the information provided helps.
Best wishes.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran. S.
