Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Doctor Rynne, Recently I was prescribed Spiractin 25 (2 per morning) for my lymphodema (swollen legs and ankles). I have only been taking it for a week and this morning I am experiencing dizziness, which is not usual for me. Could it be the Spiractin is the cause? I did not take it this morning and feel too dizzy to drive to my usual GP.
Welcome to HCM and thank you for the query. I understand your concern. Spiranolactone makes you loose Sodium and fluid from the blood by its diuretic action. The loss of these can cause a decrease in the blood volume. This can make you feel dizzy, when you get up or are in the erect posture. It can be diagnosed by a more than 10mm difference between your lying blood pressure and standing blood pressure. There are other causes of dizziness also like an inflammation of the inner ear or decrease in the blood flow to your brain. This can be discussed if postural hypotension is not the cause. Take care Dr Noble Zachariah
