Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife (age 27 ) has tested positive for pregnancy last Saturday. Her last LMP was on 10th October'2013 and the doctor - OBG has advised her to take Susten SR 200 by vaginal route. I went to a local medicine shop to purchase the same . At the time of purchase the shop owner showed me two variations of Susten 200 #1) Susten SR 200 and #2)Susten VT 200 . According to the shop owner the Susten SR 200 tablet is supposed to be taken orally and Susten VT 200 by vaginal insert ....but the OBG prescription is creating a confusion . The prescription states 'Susten SR 200 one daily vaginally' . Please suggest if 'Susten SR 200' tablet can be inserted vaginally .
After going through the available details, Susten VT is for use intra vaginal and the other one is for oral use.
It is used as supplemental progesterone therapy. Your confusion is correct and I would suggest you to kindly contact your Gynecologist to understand which one she wants to give to the patient.
If she has prescribed intravaginal tablets it should be susten VT for obvious reasons.
Hope this clears your doubt but still it will be advisable to just contact your Gynecologist.
Hope this helps. Take care. Good Luck. Dr.A.Dubey M.D
