Can Synthroid Cause An Increase In Triglyceride Levels?
My triglyceride level has been under 100 for the past 7 years. I am aware of what foods can increase this level and keep my sugar intake low. 8/28/14 my level was 49 at my annual exam. I switched from Armour Thyroid 120 mg to Synthroid 75 mcg within the last 3 weeks. 9/23/14 my level was 331. Is it possible for Synthoid to cause this spike? If not, what other possibilities could cause such a spike apart from diet and faulty lab results. My second blood test was done onsite, sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield. For the past 6 years their results have been in sync with my Dr.'s lab results.
Hello there, I can understand your concern. I would like to know why did you switch from Armour thyroid to Synthroid? Now I understand that armour thyroid is some porcine thyroid extract. Synthroid is the medicine that I am aware of. Synthroid will not cause your Triglycerides to go up. In fact I would suggest get a TSH test done because one of the reason for TG's to go up could be that thyroid is under-replaced. IF TSH has gone up, that can be a reason for your TG going up. So get a TSH done and then meet your endocrinologist to find if anything else needs to be evaluated like kidney functions and Blood sugars. Hope this helps. Take care.
