Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

Threptin is basically a powder/biscuits (available in both the forms and in several flavors) that are supposed to be high in their protein content. They are basically known for that. Having a long standing infection, and being a diabetic, I would have thought that her protein levels in the body might be affected, and so I would have suggested protein supplementation.

Having said that, I would suggest you talk to your doctors once, cause threptin may need some adjustment in sugar control. So they need to know if you give it to her> Alternatively there are many brands now available that provide protein powder and calory intake to a diabetic without much affecting the sugar control e.g. Glucerna (diabetic). However these are quite expensive, and if your doctor thinks its ok, then I wont mind threptin in my patients.

As for the fruits she can consume, I would suggest you let me know the current sugar and KFT levels. The point remains that any fruit will step up sugars. And may fruits are rich in potassium. If her potassium levels are up, it might be necessary to avoid fruits. This is especially so if she is developing diabetic nephropathy

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
