Can Tobramycin Or Atropine Sulfate Be Used For The Treatment Of An Eye Infection?
I am a patient that had a successful surgery for a detached retina (rt eye) in 10/23/17. I ve had ongoing eye appointments since then, with successive eye drop (Keterolac, Brimonidine & Prednisolone) therapy. This weekend, I developed an infection in rt eye with large amount of pus in corner of rt eye. I have been taking benadryl (25 mg x 3), using ice without any result. As you can see, I m trying to avoid the ER or Ophthalamic appt. Can I try Tobramycin or Atropine Sulfate on this infected eye?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
An infection after retinal detachment surgery needs to be urgently reviewed by the surgeon . Tobramycin is an antibiotic but it only covers one group of bacteria you should add Moxifloxacin to it to cover the other group.atropine is a dilator so that is not advised. but i would advise you to show the doctor once.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
