Can Viagra Be Taken While On Metoprolol, Gabapentin And Nortriptyline?
Hi my 63 year old husband was just prescribed viagra for his ED. He is on aspirin therapy, Metoprolol, and gabapentin, nortriptyline, and several other pain related medication. He had a stroke 2 years ago, he has been having ED for about 6 months now, and ask the doctor for the Viagra. Will it be OK for him to take this medication?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
He needs careful monitoring of his blood pressure. Viagra is taken along with Metoprolol can have an additive blood pressure-lowering effects of Metoprolol resulting in a fall in blood pressure.
He should consult his doctor if he experiences signs and symptoms of low blood pressure such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, flushing, headache, or a rapid pulse or heart rate and he should take caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
