Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a problem with my knee joint reverse flexing so I was given a brace. Wore it in house a few days no issues. One day wore about 6 hours under my jeans standing and working outside. After coming in and removing jeans leg was very swollen. A scan revealed a blood clot just above the knee six inches. I have been on apixaban for over 16 months and blood clot is not going away. Two fold question, can a leg brace cause a DVT that quickly? Should the clot remain in the leg forever or can it be removed.
Apixaban is anticoagulant and it prevents blood clot in vessels. it leads to increase in bleeding time and clotting time and tendency to Bleeding increase. This has happened in your case and due to brace wearing under jeans bleeding might have happened which has lead to hematoma. If hematoma is large it may have to be drained as it may lead to infection. if it's small nothing to worry as it will be absorbed by your body.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
