hi.. my dad is suffering from diabetes from past 25 years. he has cataract in both the eyes. we also got his retina checked for diabetic neuropathy but right now his retina appears normal. we want to get his surgery done for cataract before it worsens. i wanted to know if it is safe getting him operated and if yes what are the complications and post operation care. and wanted to know if this surgery can cause any future problems in his health. how safe is it to get it done and who is the best ophthalmologist in Bangalore. how much will it cost.

hi.. Good to know that your dad hasn't developed retinopathy after 25years of diabetes. If his blood sugar values are normal you can safely go ahead with the cataract surgery. Complications in cataract surgery is very less now a days. most common thing is to have a post operative infection which can be avoided by good sugar control and antibiotics. This surgery by itself cannot pose any problems for your dad in the future. the cost of cataract surgery depends on the type of lens material you select and the type of procedure. May cost you somewhere between 18,000-23,000. Hope i have answered all your queries..
