Can A Gluten Free Diet Have Side Effects?

I have recently had to change my diet to gluten free, Cain sugar free, no cows milk, no corn, etc, and am experiencing pain from the center of my breast done all the way around to my right shoulder blade. Am very burpy and gassy. Could this be caused by my gallbladder?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Gluten free diet might cause nutritional deficiency especially deficiency of iron and Vitamin B12. On long run it can cause osteoporosis and weakness. The symptoms you have mentioned are not related to gluten free diet and are due to dyspeptic symptoms. You can take antacids like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole to avoid burping and dyspeptic symptoms. If symptoms persist consult a gastroenterologist and get an endoscopy done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
