Hello my father was in icu after undergoing angioplasty which was done on 27th June 2018 and two stents were placed ...and he got water in his lungs ..they removed the water ..but my father blood pressure is low 53 he is in unconcious state they are giving him sedatives ...they had taken sputum test for any lung infection that might causing low blood pressure ..lung infection is the reason for my dad low blood pressure ...the reports will be coming tomorrow ..today is 1 July my dad was in icu unconsious when my dad blood pressure going to stabilise..lung infection can cause low blood pressure ...when the the sputum test result are going to get ...becus sputum fortest taken already yesterday on 30th June ..my father is going to be alright.

Yes, lung infection can cause hypotension. Infact any infection in the body when it is severe can cause hypotension. Infection causes sepsis and septicemia. These cause release of inflammatory mediators. These mediators cause vasodilatation and hypotension. Sputum culture and sensitivity report is needed. Culture report will isolate the causative organism and sensitivity report will guide about effective antibiotic treatment. Usually it takes 2-3 days for this report to come. Once infection is controlled, blood pressure will be normalize.
